Cumbria Food Profile : Meat as Meat Should Be !!

Airey's Farm Shop - Ayside, Nr Newby Bridge ( on old A590 south of Newton in Cartmel )
herwick sheep

Airey's butchers have been in business for over 175 years, and still uses the same site as it did all those years ago. It is now run by Steven Airey, his wife Joanne and Steven's brother Martin.

All the meat which is sold through the shop comes from within approx a 12 mile radius and all has full traceability. The shop buys from the same farmers it has done for years, and also sells meat from its own stock of traditional cattle and sheep. These include Aberdeen Angus, Galloway and Highland cattle, and Ryeland, Welsh Black & Herdwick lamb which comes from Millbeck Farm at Great Langdale.

Lakeland Herdwick: Taste England's Finest Landscape

Lakeland Herdwick lamb is a unique seasonal product available from January through to June. At the start of the season, the lambs are lighter but mature into heavier weights by March.

Buy the best from the farmers that know the best, and care that it is not just good, but GREAT!

What our guests say :-

tythebarn logo

"Thanks for your wonderful hospitality. Food and accommodation were excellent. Would certainly recommend to friends and family. Will be back!! : R & D Black : Edinburgh
"A great beginning and end to our biking holiday! Very welcome comfort and food after many miles on the road. Thankyou : M & V : London

"I've been visiting the Lake District for many years now and have stayed in many establishments. Tythebarn House was recommended to us by a local who had heard of their reputation.

To cut a long story short our stay was fantastic. We were greeted as if we were old friends, treated as if we were old friends and quite simply the proprietors could not do enough for us. The room was spotless and very comfortable and we had everything that we needed at our disposal.

One warning though...if you are trying to lose weight don’t go as Diana is a first class chef and whilst her cooking is heaven it is not good for the waistline. Looking forward to our next trip!!

"Thankyou - for your warmth and hospitality and a lovely stay at Tythebarn.

I would love to return for Cumbrian Cookery with my sister in law.

With best wishes, from Dubai and Dorset"
